Research & Data

Child Care Aware® of Kansas collects statewide data on the supply of licensed child care, parents' requests for child care arrangements, and services provided by child care resource and referral agencies. We also provide technical assistance and guidance related to technology which impacts data collection efforts and documentation of resource and referral services. Through a variety of projects, publications and collaborations we are a reliable source of child care data and information on child care issues.

Who Cares for Kansas Children? Early Education Workforce Study

In 2010, the Who Cares for Kansas Children? Early Education Workforce Study was conducted.

Early childhood professionals were surveyed about their employment. Their responses were used to develop the 2010 Kansas Child Care Workforce Profile.

Families were surveyed about the service they received after utilizing a child care resource and referral agency. Their responses, combined with other statistical resources, were used to create state, regional, and county profiles.

The result is a collection of reports that provides a detailed picture of the child care workforce and the familes who need child care in Kansas.

Technical Assistance

Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies are extensively involved within the communities of their service delivery areas, offering technical assistance to child care providers, community partners and families. Materials are distributed to families looking for child care and community resources, to businesses and agencies who work with families or providers or who need assistance in working with employees who have young children, and to providers needing resources on business, children's activities, growth and development and a multitude of other areas.

Infant/Toddler Project

The Infant/Toddler Project is designed to support quality child care for infants and toddlers across Kansas through relationship-based support and resources. The goals of the Infant/Toddler Project in Kansas are to Increase the quality of infant/toddler child care and to increase the availability of infant and toddler child care slots.

Kansas Quality Rating and Improvement System

The Kansas Quality Rating and Improvement System (KQRIS) is the changing face of child care quality in Kansas. Since its inception in 2006, results from ratings have shown that programs are positively impacted by KQRIS. The KQRIS Year-End Date Report provides information about child care quality collected through the Kansas Quality Rating and Improvement System. Data is provided at three different levels: statewide, CCR&R service delivery area and county. Data is organized in two ways: all programs and by program type.

Healthy Kansas Kids

Healthy Kansas Kids is designed to improve nutrition and physical activity practices in early childhood settings. According to an evaluation conducted over the last two years, Healthy Kansas Kids is helping child care providers significantly improve nutrition and physical activity policies and practices.
